Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2015

Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2015

Later on this month, the U.S president, Barrack Obama will be attending the sixth Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES2015) that will be held in Nairobi, Kenya. The summit will be an insightful opportunity for entrepreneurs in Africa and the world at large. Entrepreneurs will have a chance to connect and interact with leaders from government, businesses and international organizations all over the world.

What you need to know about the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES)

The Global Entrepreneurship Summit was launched by President Barrack Obama in 2009 during his speech on the US engagement agenda. The summit was first held in Washington D.C, USA in 2010. Since then the event has expanded globally and subsequently been hosted by Turkey, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Malaysia and Morocco.
The two-day conference is aimed at bringing together entrepreneurs, businessmen, investors, capitalists among other business people to network, interact and learn from one another; and help improve and strengthen the entrepreneurial infrastructure. Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) is an initiative of the White House partnering with the host country every year. The established tradition demonstrates the U.S. Government’s continued commitment in transforming entrepreneurship on a global level.

Over six thousand people, from small-business owners and mentors to policymakers and investors, participated in last year’s summit. The figure is expected to increase in this year’s summit.

Kenya to host the 2015 Global Entrepreneurship Summit

The 2015 Global Entrepreneurship Summit will be held in Nairobi, Kenya on 25th and 26th of July. This was officially announced by the White House officials on 30th March 2015. This will be the first time this annual event takes place in Africa’s Sub-Saharan region. The Governments of Kenya and that of the U.S are pleased to announce the availability of media accreditation applications for the 2015 GES (Global Entrepreneurship Summit).
Last year’s U.S-Africa Leader’s Summit advanced the Administration’s focus on trade and investment in Africa and highlighted United State’s commitment to Africa’s security and development. It was during the summit that President Obama promised to hold the sixth summit in the sub-saharan region. The selection of Kenya to host this year’s Summit highlights the country’s role as an economic leader in East Africa and the innovative efforts that demonstrates Kenya’s entrepreneurship ecosystem.

The Spark Global Entrepreneurship Initiative

Through this initiative, started by President Obama, the U.S government has promised to bring on board new investments to leverage entrepreneurship by generating more than $ 1 billion dollar by the end of 2017. These initiatives include the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES), the President’s Ambassadors for Global Entrepreneurship (PAGE), the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), the African Women’s Entrepreneurship Program (AWEP), and the entrepreneurship work of USAID’s Global Development Lab.

Conclusion
Entrepreneurs create opportunities that positively impact economic development and find solutions to social problems. They drive economic growth, empower others and even create job opportunities. The USA, through its initiatives, wants to elevate entrepreneurs to transform the world by promoting their ideas into successful ventures. The United State’s Administration has delivered on the commitment, greatly expanding support for entrepreneurship and economic opportunity around the world.

Kenya’s dynamism and potentially innovative solutions have largely contributed to its selection as the host of the 2015 annual entrepreneurship summit.
